A good part of the route that we will talk about today runs along an old Roman road, of which the cobblestones are very well preserved. It was part of the road that linked Malaga and Alora with the ancient Ronda: Acinipo (we already told you about it in previous posts).

The route starts in Casarabonela, a white village belonging to the Sierra de las Nieves with a lot of charm. The walk offers beautiful views of the Guadalhorce Valley and this section is great for hikers because although the route is easy, one of its attractions is that it has several slopes.

Now let’s go to the second attraction and let’s emphasize it. It is a privilege to be able to walk for several kilometres along such a well-preserved Roman road in such a green environment. There are limestone quarries along the route which are surprisingly intact. This section of the Roman road is the most beautiful of the route, but the views we have during the walk along the forest track are unbeatable. The slope is smooth, so it is not difficult to climb. The descent is a little more complex, but not much.

The route is well signed and although it is supposed to be circular, a part of the section crosses the village, so you can either resign yourself to spending a few minutes at the white houses or make it linear, leave the refuge of San Cristobal, end at the last limestone quarry and retrace your steps, which is what we recommend.

We also recommend that you bring food, a good supply of water and a hat.
