Sierra de Grazalema
A paradise in the heart of the province of Cádiz
Grazalema is one of the famous White Villages of southern Spain.
Last weekend, a group of Silverfriends went on our first countryside outing, and it was a great success! We chose to visit the Sierra de Grazalema, a natural paradise in the heart of Cádiz, Spain, which never disappoints.
If you’re not familiar with it, the town of Grazalema is one of the famous White Villages of southern Spain and, interestingly, it’s the rainiest town in all of Andalusia. Perhaps that’s one of the secrets that makes the surrounding mountains incredibly lush and reminiscent of a fairy tale.
Must-see spots include:
1. La Garganta Verde: An impressive 400-meter-deep gorge where you can spot numerous colonies of griffon vultures nesting in the area. The trail is amazing, but it’s essential to make a reservation.
2. The Roman Road: A stone path that connects the towns of Benaocaz and Ubrique, offering a fascinating glimpse into the rich cultural history of the region. In the past, this road connected to Acinipo (Ronda), making it a significant historical landmark.
3. Llano del Republicano Trail: This one feels truly magical! It leads to the Republicano Cave and traverses what used to be an ancient glacier. It’s recommended only for nature enthusiasts seeking an unspoiled wilderness experience.
