In addition to its weight loss ‘properties’, the alkaline diet is highly recommended for detoxifying the body and increasing energy levels.
As with everything in life, the key is balance. Apparently our pH must be kept within a certain range in order for our cells to function optimally.
A diet rich in plant foods encourages this balance, while too much meat and dairy products hinder it, which can lead the body towards acidity (the nemesis of fruit salt). This is an important issue, because acidity promotes hormonal, immune and metabolic disturbances.
Now let’s get back to the point, a more alkaline diet will help to maintain the body’s pH balance. No radicalism. Remember, balance is the key.
Let’s talk about foods: this diet classifies them into two large groups, alkaline and acidic, and a third intermediate group, called neutral.
Things to add to the shopping list: spinach, celery, carrots, courgettes, potatoes, lettuce, aubergines, tomatoes, onions, broccoli and cabbages in general, sultanas, dried figs, black grapes, bananas, apricots, cherries, oranges, lemons and apples.
Acidic foods: meat, eggs and dairy products.
Summary: Eating fresh fruit and vegetables is always a good idea.
