IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS, LIFE IS LIVED LONGER AND BETTER
A team from the University of Chicago has just published a study showing that residents of senior living communities live longer…
And the study has its reasons. This research suggests that the fundamental causes are that these individuals receive more home healthcare services and preventive care. This study is based on comparing individuals who have been living in communities for at least two years with those who live on their own.
And what do we conclude? In summary, older adults who move to senior communities have these advantages that seem key to prolonging our lives:
They live longer and have lower mortality.
They receive more home healthcare.
They obtain more preventive and rehabilitative services at home.
They spend less time taking antipsychotics.
To this, we add the offer of activities that prevent us from falling into sedentary habits and the highly effective help it represents in combating the dreaded loneliness. The epidemic that we all (or at least us) deeply fear.
