Mina Buenavista, Marbella Hiking Route
Ready for a short hike with a lot of history? This 4 km route takes us along the southern face of Sierra Blanca, climbing the Arroyo de las Piedras ravine along the Buenavista path. Our destination: the historic Buenavista Mine, also known as Los Tres Amigos. No Everest skills required—just legs, enthusiasm, and maybe a sip of water.
We’ll explore the remains of the old lead smelting site. Spain was the world leader in lead production until 1881, and Marbella’s mines were among the most productive in Málaga. Today, we can still see parts of the walls, the washing pool, and the 5-meter-high furnace that once worked nonstop… unfortunately at the expense of many holm oaks and cork trees. Replanting came later, which is why the forest looks the way it does today.
